Wounds Australia is the peak body for wounds care and management in Australia with membership close to 3000 professionals. We advance wound prevention and care through advocacy, education and research. Wounds Australia was established in 2015 following the nationalisation of the Australian Wound Management Association national and state and territory associations.

Wounds Australia members are drawn from the disciplines of nursing, medicine, pharmacy, podiatry, industry and the sciences. The reason our membership is multidisciplinary is that it often requires multiple health care professionals to manage a complex, chronic wound.  The involvement of such a team has been shown to enhance the healing of existing diabetic ulcers, and decreases hospitalisations and amputations due to diabetic foot disease.

Why should people join? Well apart from being a great group of people we provide great educational opportunities. Under the national regulation of health practitioners all registered practitioners are required to undertake Continuing Professional Development. This means ongoing education and it is a different amount for each profession.

Wounds Australia facilitates and promotes education in wound management including: Publications, Online learning modules and competencies, Conferences, seminars and wound management courses.

Wounds Australia is also the voice for wound prevention and care in Australia.  We advocate to governments for better wound care and run national campaigns, like Wound Awareness Week to increase understanding about wounds and skin injury.

Wounds Australia welcomes health care professionals, scientists, students and others working in or with an interest in wound care to join.
